Recently, USA Today published a story entitled What can $1 million buy in today's housing market? I thought that was in interesting question and decided to put a local slant on it. My question is what can a $1 Million buy in Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs. The answer, of course, varies depending on where you're looking to buy…but here’s what I found.
In Delaware County, a million will put you in this classic 84 year old colonial that has been completely renovated. The house was the former manor home for Kenmore Woods and has more than 5,000 square feet of living space. There are five bedrooms, 4 full and 1 half baths, a new gourmet kitchen, new bathroom and an elevator. The lot is .33 acre and there is also garage parking for three cars.
In Philadelphia a cool mill will get you into this 1860’s Rittenhouse Square townhouse featuring more than 5,500 square feet of renovated living space. The house has six bedrooms, 3 full and 1 half baths, an au pair suite, 4 fireplaces, a gourmet kitchen, a rear garden with a fountain and last but not least, one of the most prestigious addresses in the City.
If you like golf, perhaps Montgomery County is the place for you. For $1 Million you can reside in this house on the fairway in a golf course community, in Lower Salford Township. This 6 year old house was the former builder’s model home and has numerous upgrades and extras. The 4,855 square foot home features four bedrooms, 4 full and 1 half baths, a finished walk-out basement with wet bar, media room, wine cellar and an elevator.
This house in West Chester is a perfect example of what Chester County has to offer. In East Bradford Township, $1 Million can purchase this 5,031 square foot home situated on 4.8 acres. The house has six bedrooms, three full and 2 half baths, an in-ground pool with flagstone terrace, a finished basement, detached three car garage and panoramic views of the Chester County countryside.
